FDA could soon regulate tobacco in U.S.

The website for the organization Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids states, “This year, the U.S. Congress has a truly historic opportunity to protect our children from tobacco addiction and save lives. It can do so by passing legislation that grants the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to regulate the manufacturing, marketing and sale of tobacco products.”

The group CTFK states that the use of tobacco is the “number one cause of preventable death in America.”

According to the site, tobacco use kills over 400,000 U.S. citizens each year and costs “the nation $96 billion in health care bills each year.”

In addition, each day another 1,200 people die from cigarette smoking. Even worst, each and every day over 1,000 kids become new smokers.

They will become future statistics for the number of people dying from smoking in later years.
