The researchers sent out questionnaires to a “randomly selected age-stratified male population sample” within Western Australia.

A five-item International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) was used to assess erectile function.

The Australian researchers found that 87% of the subjects drank alcohol. Of those that reported themselves as alcohol drinkers, 20% were labeled as “binge drinkers.”

The results found that drinkers had 30% fewer problems with erectile dysfunction than non-drinkers.

In addition, men labeled as “binge drinkers” also had fewer problems with erectile dysfunction than non-drinkers.

According to the NEWS.scotsman.com’s article “Alcohol can help men 'perform better' in bedroom,” Dr Kew-Kim Chew was paraphrased to have said, “… men who drank within safe guidelines appeared to have the best erectile function.”
