The American Red Cross is holding its New Year’s Blood Drive in January 2009 as part of its January’s National Blood Donor Month. Australia is one of many other countries joining the United States in its drive to save human lives in 2009. Make a resolution to give the Gift of Life and save the lives of “up to three people.”
In less than one hour, blood donors from around the world can donate blood during the first month of 2009.
The Age article “
Donate blood in 2009: Red Cross” states that
“While many people think about giving blood, only one in 30 actually makes a donation, the Australian Red Cross says."
It adds,
"The nation needs 21,000 blood donations each week to ensure there's enough supply for medical purposes.”
The
American Red Cross, along with the
AABB (formerly known as the American Association of Blood Banks), wants you to know that January is National Blood Donor Month.
They emphasize the extra need for blood in January because blood donations typically drop off after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
In addition, there is less blood donors coming in during the cold winter months in North America.
Page two continues to state where to find locations to donate blood in Australia and the United States.
