The patients given TMS had “statistically significant improvement” in their symptoms over the control group.

Symptoms were reduced in half for twice the number of patients using the device as compared to patients not using the device.

Just as important, the patients using the TMS technique did not have the side effects often reported with patients using anti-depression drugs, such as nausea, sexual problems, weight gain, and other such symptoms.

The only side effects reported by the participating patients included discomfort in the head area during the procedure or scalp pain.

The patients, for the most part, saw these side effects diminish or go away as the number of procedures increased.

The U.S.-based Neuronetics is the first U.S. company to manufacturer a TMS device. Its patented name is called NeuroStar TMS Therapy.

The company states that its device is the: “First and Only Non-systemic and Non-invasive Treatment Cleared for Patients Who Have Not Benefited From Prior Antidepressant Treatment.”
