The survey also found that 72% of children in Australia were at a weight that is considered healthy.
However, 17% of children were classified as overweight and 6% were classified as obese.
In addition, 5% of these children was classified as underweight, which is also deemed to be unhealthy.
Other important findings were reported by the Australian government with respect to the health of Australian children. Also included is a concluding remark by the Australian government. Please read on.
Sugar intake was also surveyed. The researchers found that the children were eating 23 to 24% of their total energy intake in the form of sugar.
However, federal guidelines state that children should have less than 20% of sugar as part of their total energy intake.
In addition, as the children aged, their total percentage of sugar intake increased. Children aged four to eight years had an intake percentage of 29%, while teenagers 14 to 16 years of age had a 39% intake of sugar.
Page three provides further results, and a concluding remark on the survey with respect to Australian children and teenagers.
