Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The ABC News article “Survey reveals big drop in cannabis use,” quotes Australian psychologist Steve Allsop, from Curtin University's National Drug Research Institute (NDRI), as saying that the findings of the AIHW is: "… consistent with other reports that have been coming in from previous surveys, and certainly from an early schools survey we've been getting indications, so I think it is very welcome news.”
Allsop added, “We shouldn't be complacent, there's still people who are clearly getting into difficulty with both these illegal drugs [cannibus and amphetamines], but it's very welcome news that we've had this massive decline in reported cannabis use, and a smaller decline in amphetamine use.” [ABC News]
He concludes: "I don't think we should take this as an indication that illegal drug problems have gone away." [ABC News]
Western Australia’s Minister of Health James “Jim” McGinty adds, “The number of people smoking cannabis, falling as it has, shows that the health message is getting through, that it's bad to smoke, and it's dangerous to smoke cannabis. I think this is the health message getting through to the public about the dangers of smoking and the dangers of cannabis, if you smoke cannabis there's a double whammy." [ABC News]
