Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Toyota executive Takeshi Uchiyamada stated at the press conference that announced the Winglet, "We hope to create friendly robots that can exist side by side with people. Winglet will help everyone move around safely and stay active." [Associated Press, “Toyota tests Segway-like stand-up-and-ride machine”]
Winglet was developed from Toyota's robotics division, which was bought from Sony Corporation in 2007. Uchivamada also suggested that future Winglets will contain wireless technology enabling riders to be informed on such things as shopping news when riding them through shopping malls and downtown shopping areas.
In the future, the Winglet is also expected by Toyota to re-charge its batteries as it is driven and even travel without its rider when its owner calls it.
Toyota will begin consumer testing of the Winglet at the Central Japan International Airport near Nagoya and Laguna Gamagori resort in the fall of 2008. Further testing will occur under more crowded conditions in 2009. It is expected to be mass produced by 2010, but the time in which general sales to the public will first begin have not been announced as of yet.
