Carl Hagen, Professor of Particle Physics at Rochester University and one of the original theorists who with Peter Higgs developed the framework for the boson added, "It is wonderful to be at a Physics event where there is applause like there is at a football game."
Amen to that.
In closing the event, Rolf-Dieter Hauer noted that "We have a discovery. We have observed a new particle consistent with a Higgs Boson. Which one? That remains open. It's a historic milestone today, but we are only at the beginning."
As a final observation, readers should note that an estimated 500 trillion atomic particles were severely harmed during the execution of these experiments.
