Many vehicle manufacturers have attempted to show us the future for travelling our urban streets. Electric Vehicles (EV's) are certainly the way the betting is going, but for many, performance concerns (amongst others) make a EV purchase less probably.  But what if a sexy SLS AMG E-Cell was proffered up as both green and sporty?

As my iTWire colleague, Tony Austin pointed out today, there is a disparity between how potential owners and automobile executives may be viewing a purchase of an EV.

Some are driven by economic, some by environmental reasons, others just want what they have today, but in a greener or cheaper form.

At the North American International Auto Show recently Ford unveiled its new C-MAX Energi and C-MAX Hybrid vehicles.

Each will offer high mileage and low emissions as well as distinctive body design and a flexible interior. The plug-in hybrid and third-generation full hybrid leverage Ford's global C-car platform, acclaimed powersplit architecture, next-generation driver information features and advanced lithium-ion battery systems.

"C-MAX Energi and C-MAX Hybrid will be perfect for families looking to maximise their hybrid car experience,' Ford's director of Global Electrification, Nancy Gioia, said.

"Thanks to the versatile interior, these cars are going to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers who need room to grow."

C-MAX Energi will offer more than 800km of overall driving range using the battery and engine.
