Construction needs cloud flexibility

Australia’s embattled construction sector could benefit from cloud based information systems that can be switched on and off in lockstep with individual projects – with the exception of those organisations based in remote areas like the Kimberleys.

Australia has one of world's greenest supercomputers

Science - Energy

The Green500 List has recognized the CSIRO CPU-GPU supercomputer cluster as Australia's greenest supercomputer and the 11th fastest and most energy efficient supercomputer in the world.

The announcement of Australia's 'greenest' supercomputer was made on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the international SC10 supercomputing conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The SC10 conference, officially called the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, is being held from November 13 to 19, 2010.

The name of Australia's greenest supercomputer is the CSIRO CPU-GPU.

The 'greenest' award from the Green500 List goes to supercomputers that consume the least power (are most energy efficient).

In other words, such supercomputers are able to reduce their 'carbon footprint' when they use advanced technology to improve their energy efficiency.

Check out the YouTube video 'Australia's 'greenest' supercomputer' for more information about the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) central processing unit-graphics processing unit (CPU-GPU) supercomputer cluster.
