The Tesla Model S will be able to seat seven people, with a large cargo area that, according to The San Francisco Chronicle, can hold
“a 50-inch television, a mountain bike and a surfboard at the same time.”
The high-performance battery-electric car company, Tesla Motors, is headquartered in San Carlos, California (San Mateo County) within the Silicon Valley area.
The company was founded, in July 2003, by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, in San Carlos, California.
The company is named after Austrian-American inventor, physicist, and mechanical/electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.
Buyers are already putting down their orders for the approximately $57,400 Tesla sedan, where $7,500 is deducted off the car as a federal tax credit.
However, the cars will not be available until 2011, at the earliest.
Officials with Telsa hope to initially produce 20,000 Model S sedans each year.
Mr. Musk stated that three different power pack batteries will be available.
These, according to Musk, are:
“…160-mile, 230-mile and 300-mile battery packs.” [New York Times]
The 160-mile pack comes standard on the $57,400 base model.
