In what is claimed to be a first, a new reporting software product, aimed at simplifying carbon emissions reporting across Australia’s business community, has been launched.
Perth-based company, BMS Solutions, has developed
a package called CINTELLATE to measure Australian organisations’ carbon
footprints using data collection, measurement and reporting functions.
According to BMS Solutions, CINTELLATE was developed to assist
companies meet the new National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System
(NGER) Act’s new reporting requirements. Under new laws, companies have
until 31 October 2009 to submit their emission report to the
Commonwealth Government.
Unlike existing spreadsheet solutions, claims BMS, CINTELLATE is
auditable against recognised industry standards and streamlines
reporting enterprise-wide, which helps fulfil reporting obligations and
improves efficiency.
Managing director Mike Moore said his company initially began
developing the software as a direct response to requests from major
clients.
“Overall, there is a general lack of experience and knowledge
throughout the industry with regards to emissions reporting, with
organisations facing challenging unfamiliar territories and changing
legal scenery,” Mr Moore said.
“Education is critical. The market lacks understanding as to why
existing spreadsheet solutions are not a sustainable option and how to
measure with existing physical parameters.
“As the legislative environment is dynamic, keeping track of what is
happening is fundamental to achieving compliance and continual
improvement."
