One HPM produces about 25 megawatts of electrical power (Mwe), which is enough to provide electricity to about 20,000 average-sized homes in the United States.

It provides enough power for these 20,000 residents for over five years. Afterwards, it is removed from the ground and later refueled at the Hyperion factory. The spent fuel can be recycled.

There are no mechanical parts within the nuclear core. Therefore, it cannot malfunction. Water is not used as a coolant, so the device cannot go “supercritical” or over heat.

The company calls the HPM “a large battery.”
