Hyperion Nuclear Power Generation, Inc. has developed a small, modular energy reactor called the Hyperion Power Module (HPM) that can supply emission-free and affordable electricity through nuclear energy for up to 20,000 U.S. homes.
The Hyperion Power Module (HPM) is a small and compact device that is no taller than about two humans.
It can be transported easily by truck, ship, or railroad car to any location that needs reliable electricity for human or work use.
Traditional nuclear power plants are very large structures that take years to design and build. They are expensive projects that must target huge numbers of energy users in order to be profitable.
However, these HPMs have all the advantages of large nuclear power plants—clean fuel, with no emissions of greenhouse gases, and safe for the environment—but without the prohibitive expenses of purchasing large areas of land and using enormous amounts of materials and equipment.
The HPM is about the size of a “residential hot tub”—being about 5 feet (1.5 meters) wide.

“For the Hyperion Power Module, the expected unit price is $25-30 million ‘depending on options’ and the company expects to be able to get the first one out the door after spending less than $100 million on development.”
