CSIRO book highlights Australian agriculture

Science - Climate

A new book by 36 science experts from Australia, highlights the ways that Australian agricultural, fisheries, and forestry industries can cope and, even, prosper under the changing global climate on Earth and especially around Australia.

The major industries of Australia highlighted in the new book include, horticulture, forestry, grains, rice, sugarcane, cotton, viticulture, broadacre grazing, intensive livestock industries, marine fisheries, and aquaculture and water resources.

The CSIRO media release 'Agriculture must prepare for climate change challenges' states 'Australia's agricultural, fisheries and forestry industries need to actively prepare for the inevitable impacts of climate change'¦.'

The new book is entitled 'Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change: Preparing Australian Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for the Future."

It is to be released in Canberra on Monday, March 1, 2010. Page two describes an event publicizing the release of the book.

This CSIRO webpage highlighting the book states, 'The sustainable production of food and fibre by our primary industries is imperative, however Australia's primary industries are vulnerable to climate change impacts. Our primary industries need to put in place strategies to adapt to the challenges and take up opportunities.'

The book does not highlight the causes and consequences of climate change on Australia's agricultural, fisheries, and forestry industries.

The book has a more important statement to make. Please read page two for details.
