Human-made aerosols produce a cooling effect on Earth’s global climate, which runs counter to the warming effect of greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide and methane).
Based on research, most scientists in the past thought that aerosol pollution will decrease in the future. However, based on the research from Dr. Rotsyayn, that prediction may be wrong.
Dr. Rotsyayn made his statements at the International Conference on Southern Hemisphere Meteorolgy and Oceanography (
ICSHMO), which was held in Melbourne, Australia on February 9 to 13, 2009.
In the CSIRO article, it was stated,
“Dr Rotstayn said aerosols are much more than a "negative greenhouse gas" because they can actively force changes in winds and ocean currents by altering the distribution of solar heating at the earth's surface.”
The CSIRO article expressed where research shows that this aerosol pollution is coming from.
It added,
"Recent climate modelling at CSIRO shows that there may be important effects on Australian climate due to aerosol pollution from the Northern Hemisphere. These include an increase of rainfall in north-western Australia, and an increase of air pressure over southern Australia, which may have contributed to less rainfall there.”
Page three concludes with questions that need to be answered in order to identify and hopefully solve this problem over the skies of Australia.
