Research study: Love regrets remembered

Science - Biology

A new scientific study from researchers at two Illinois universities in the United States has found that Americans have some major regrets of past romances and lost loves, what we're calling "Love Regrets Remembered."

The press release from Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) that discusses this topic 'love regrets remembered' is entitled 'Romantic Regrets.'

The press release states that 'Love remains a main source of regret for typical American.'

Dr. Neal Roese, from the Department of Marketing in the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (Evanston), and Mr. Mike Morrison, from the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, studied 370 adult Americans with respect to what they considered their biggest regrets in their lives.

The participants of the study were asked to describe in detail the one major regret in their life.

Such topics as family interactions, education, career, finances, parenting, and romance were among the answers from a (random-digit) telephone survey these two researchers conducted.

Dr. Roese stated in the Northwestern article: 'We found that one's life circumstances, such as accomplishments or shortcomings, inject considerable fuel into the fires of regret. Although regret is painful, it is an essential component of the human experience.'
