Australian researchers found that older people, some into their 90s, have a lot more sex than they previously thought. Over 30% of men from 75 to 95 years of age had sex over the past year. And, many of the men wanted sex more often.
Therefore, they decided to accumulate data on the elderly and their sexual activities by determining what percentage of older men are sexually active in Perth, Western Australia, Australia.
They asked 3,274 men from the ages of 75 to 95 years to complete questionnaires about social and medical factors in their lives.
The questionnaires were completed in 1996-1999, again in 2001-2004, and then again in 2008-2009.
During the 2001-2004 period, the amount of sex hormones (testosterone) within each man was measured, and the amount of sexual activity was questioned during 2008-2009.
The researchers reported that 85.0% of the men provided data on their sexual activity -- a total of 2,783 men.
