With the National Football League's 2010 season opening on Thursday, September 8, 2010, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and the NFL have teamed up with a series of videos called the 'Science of NFL Football.'

The ten-part series of videos explore 'the science behind America's most beloved sport,' as reported by the NSF's 'Science of NFL Football.'

NBC's Lester Holt, who is the weekend anchor of NBC Nightly News, leads the play-by-play discussions within these videos.

The ten-part series consists of topics such as vectors and ''¦how to use vectors to calculate the speed and direction needed for a completed pass' and projectile motion and parabolas and ''¦the significance of vertical and horizontal velocity on the trajectory every time an NFL punter kicks a football into the sky.'

According to the NSF, these videos are made ''¦ especially for students and teachers as they head back to the classroom.'

And, ''¦ these videos are aligned to lesson plans and national state education standards, and are available.'

The lesson plans that go along with the videos 'Science of NFL Football' are found at Lessonnopoly.org.
