According to an Australian study, daily sex or ejaculation for men will improve the quality of sperm, reducing the amount of DNA damage.
Australian obstetrician and gynecologist
David Greening lead the study. He presented his findings at the
25th annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), which was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, between June 28 and July 1, 2009.
Dr. Greening is also a senior lecturer at the University of Wollongong (UOW) Post Graduation Medical School, in New South Wales, Australia (about 80 kilometers south of Sydney).
Greening’s group studied 118 men with 15% or more of their sperm being damaged down to its DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The men ranged from 15% to 98% DNA damage, with an average of 34%
The men ejaculated daily for seven days as part of the study.
After seven days, the research team found that 81% of the men (96) had
decreased their DNA damage by 12%, while 19% of the men (22) had
increased their DNA damage by about 10%.
However, all 118 men had, on average,
decreased their DNA damage by 8%, down to 26%.
