The footprint was found near the village of Ileret, which is in the Marsabit District, Eastern Province, of northern Kenya, and generally in astern Africa.

Ileret is also located on the eastern shore of Lake Turkana, north of the Sibiloi National Park, which is near the border between Kenya and Ethiopia.

Back about 1.5 million years ago, one of our ancient ancestors walked across this land, left his or her footprints in the mud or soggy soil, and, now, this team unearthed some of them.
