Seventy-something seniors sizzle sex, states Swedish study

Science - Biology

According to Nils Beckman and colleagues from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, men and women who are seventy years and older are having sex more often and are enjoying it more, too—whether they are married or not. Women are especially satisfied!

The study was published in the British Medical Journal on July 7, 2008, under the title “Secular trends in self reported sexual activity and satisfaction in Swedish 70 year olds”

In the thirty-year period from 1971 to 2000, the Swedish researchers studied four representative-population samples of 70-year-old adults in Sweden.

They were interviewed by the Swedish researchers in the time periods of 1971-71, 1976-77, 1992-93, and 2000-01.

The researchers found that in 1971 married men, seventy years and older, reported having sex 52% of the time, while in 2000 they reported having it 68% of the time--16% more.

In the same frame of time, married women went from having sex 38% of the time to 58% of the time--a whooping 20% more.

On the single side of the aisle, unmarried men went from having sex 30% of the time in 1971 to 54% in 2000 (24% more).

Unmarried women went from 0.8% in 1971 to 12% in 2000, over the same period of time--not quite as much as the other groups, only 11.2% more, but look at where they started (almost zero)!!

Women also were reporting some more interesting descriptions of their sexual exploits. Please read on.
