Brazil tribe photographed: No contact with outside world

Science - Biology

Meirelles stated, ‘What is happening in this region [of Peru] is a monumental crime against the natural world, the tribes, the fauna and is further testimony to the complete irrationality with which we, the ‘civilised’ ones, treat the world.” [BBC News: “Isolated tribe spotted in Brazil”]

Many of these uncontacted tribes are in danger of being killed off by illegal logging and other unscrupulous actions by the outside world (what is often called the “civilized world”).

In addition, many of these peoples are being forced off of their native lands. Others are in danger of contacting diseases for which they have no immune system, which can protect them.

In fact, such an illness as the common cold can be deadly to members of uncontacted peoples.

According to SI, international law protects these uncontacted tribes.

Brazil is considered to contain the largest number of uncontacted people in the world.

The photographs of this group of people were taken between April 28 and May 2, 2008. Several photographs, and a video, of the tribe can be found at the CNN website "'Uncontacted tribe' sighted in Amazon.”
