Home Reviews Mobile Devices Samsung is serious about cameras

Samsung has released the NX30 and promptly won the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) ‘Best CSC Advanced 2014’ award.

As cameras go this is a system camera – you buy the body then lenses to suit. Samsung’s NX30 is extremely competitive on price and value – this A$1099 camera (body and 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6, optical image stabilisation lens) has above average professional features including a very convenient extendable telescopic viewfinder (on the top) and a swivel AMOLED display as well as Wi-Fi/NFC for sharing.

Interestingly the optional “S” lens - specifications below – has an impressive f2-2.8, 16-50mm (25.6-77mm) and is the one that I would want to use. It costs $1499 – now you begin to understand the meaning of professional cameras where the body cost is just the beginning.

Interested buyers will however find major competition with Panasonic, Sony, Nikon and other brands – it is a crowded market. I think Samsung’s lack of an established pedigree as a system camera will be made up in value and features.
