crimson piratescoverSteam-punk sea battles with blimps, swashbuckling heroes, Tesla coils, teleportation and other Jules Verne inspired imagery and adventure.

Many years ago there was the wonderful Crimson Skies, a paper and pencil game of high adventure in an alternative universe with Jules Verne style steam punk devices within a geo-political 1940's world of a not so united states of America.

The high-pulp action storytelling, coupled with customisable prop driven planes and bands of outlaws, mercenary and lawmen pilots featuring strong, charismatic male and female leaders was a winner with my gaming group.  Nothing was more thrilling that leading a squadron of Black Swan Raven's and Fury's on a raid against a plump (but heavily armoured and armed) merchant zeppelin.

The game was translated into a simplified Wiz-Kids table top game as well as a couple of excellent video game options and now the Crimson Skies universe is available to iPad owners, albeit in navel form instead of aerial.

Crimson Steam Pirates captures the swash, if not the buckling of the paper and dice dog-fighting game from long ago, adds some turn-based touch screen commands and enough spice for fans of the canon to relive some good times.

Set in the late 1800's you are Captain Thomas Blood, a character that could easily be portrayed by Errol Flynn.  An eye for the ladies and a well-shaped keel as well as a nose for loot and action, Mr Blood is beginning his first set of adventures in the classic pirating location of the Caribbean.

Each chapter (currently three available) has eight missions, there are also multiplayer duels, but it is essentially the single player tale that will attract most to this game.crimson pirates2
