Review: de Blob 2 - A splash of coloured fun

There, I have said it, the original de Blob on the Nintendo Wii was an overlooked gem of fun colour and carefree (almost hippie-like) game-play.  But de Blob has grown up and the sequel brings the ball of paint into the HD/3D world with versions for the Xbox 360 and PS3.


Like Boom Blox, de Blob was a criminally overlooked title as far as sales are concerned on the Nintendo Wii.  Suffering from the third-party development situation on this platform was never going to be something that sat well with developer Blue Tongue Entertainment

So it is no wonder the team decided to spread their platforming wings, bringing de Blob 2 to the high definition platforms of PS3 and Xbox 360.  And that is where we pick up the story, the evil and exceedingly drab INKT Corporation is back in power under the leadership of recently exiled Comrade Black. 

Having been booted out of Chroma City, the INKT Corp has its [single] eye (which doubles as a mouth using clever and amusing art direction) focused on Prisma City and surrounds. 

Our space-hopper shaped hero, Blob and the Colour Underground crew must again free the cities inhabitants, the Radyans, from the oppressive rule of those INKT Corp monochrome-cronies.

With more power to play with, Blue Tongue has opened the world of de Blob up, with 12 expansive levels to be explored.  Essentially, the mechanics of the game revolve around Blob sashaying his/her way around the environment, filling up on paint, combining primary colours to make others and painting the town through touch.

As more and more colour gets splashed around, the background music, synced to colour coded instruments gets a boppy infusion itself, building up in layers and jazz based melodies as the level gets close to complete hue saturation.
