Resistance Retribution™: The Twisted Alternative History
Millions of Resistance: Fall of Man™ fans have been fighting and dying in an alternative history: a history in which mankind escaped World War II but instead came attack from a foe of unimaginable ferocity. Events are about to unfold further in the forthcoming Resistance: Retribution™ for PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable). For now, this is your briefing on how we got to where we are today…
1908: Tunguska Event: explosion flattens 2,150 square kilometers of Siberian forest.
1918: Germany defeats Russia and requests a ceasefire with the Entente powers, ending World War 1.
1920: Russian mineralogist Leonid Kulik vanishes on a scientific expedition to the Tunguska site.
1921: Civil wars break out in Russia. Country closes communication with the outside world. Barbed-wire barried erected along border; later becomes Russian Wall.
1926: Radioactive slick in the Volga River kills all marine life in the Sea of Azov.
1930: In Germany, economic recovery leads to re-election of democratic government. Nazi party’s extreme agenda is ridiculed.
1938: German intelligence discovers dozens of ghost towns in Russia just across the Belarus border. A police station in Finland is overwhelmed Russian refugees. Finnish diplomats unable to establish communication with the Russian government.
1939: Europe creates Military Defence Commission to develop new weapons.
1941: Britain begins constructing new military bases. Widespread alarm as newspapers reveal that the London base is subterranean with concrete walls several yards thick.
1942: Amateur plane spotters in Latvia report brilliant lights and strange aircraft in the skies.
1947: Russian refugee appears at the British embassy in Estonia with a satchel containing what is apparently a genetically modified human skull.
August 1948: British intelligence discovers looping Russian radio propaganda broadcasts encouraging “Brotherhood, strength, and fortitude… …in the face of the Angry Night.”
December 1948: Chimera break through Russian Wall and sweep into Europe in huge blitzkrieg, rolling over all static defences with immense speed and coordination.
January 1950: Red Cross notes inexplicable lack of refugees in cities that have fallen to the Chimera. Less that a thousand people rescued from Warsaw.
March 1950: Continental Europe has fallen. British navy is attacked in the night; all 96 ships found beached on French coast.
October 1950: Chimeran ‘Burrowers’ tunnel under English Channel. Battle of London is lost when Chimera divert the Thames into British underground command centre. Military strategy shifts to guerilla warfare.
January 1951: Savage humans seemingly aligned with the Chimera discovered. Fighters ritualistically mutilate themselves and their victims; are known as “The Cloven” for the slashed-hand markings they leave behind.
March 1951: Commando unit led by Major Cartwright discovers first known Chimeran ‘conversion’ centre. Autopsies of Chimeran Hybrids confirm they are genetically modified humans.
June 1951: Almost the entire population of Europe – 550m people – now unaccounted for, believed to have been converted into Chimera.
July 1951: US sends 1st Ranger Regiment to York: force is quickly wiped out. Sergeant Nathan Hale is sole survivor and appears to be infected with Chimeran virus.
August 1951: Network of Chimera Towers discovered; British and American forces launch desperate attack against main Tower in London and destroy its central nuclear fission reactor. Reaction destroys all Towers in Britain and kills all Chimeran Angels inside. Remaining Chimera forces in Britain quickly die off.
September 1951: British Intelligence contacted for help by the Maquis. As new hero James Grayson, it’s down to you to answer the call.
