It’s time for a couple of Xbox Live Arcade review round ups. Beginning with the swashbuckling good times during the Age of Booty and ending with the explosive old-school meets new-school gaming of Death Tank.
It has been out for a little while now (October on Xbox LIVE and November on the PlayStation Network, with a Windows version in development), but Age of Booty by Certain Affinity has been filling the hours between blockbusters for this reviewer.
Controlling a pirate ship, players traverse the map of ocean, tropical islands, villages and strongholds, with the aim of controlling a certain number of strongholds before time runs out or your opposition succeed in the similar goal.
The game consists of three parts; a single player campaign, map editor and multiplayer lobby.
The single player consists of 21 challenges divided into easy, medium and hard scenarios, though there is not a clear delineation between the difficulties. During team challenges, your single ship will be joined by AI controlled buddies.
Online players can battle in teams of two or four using a whole new set of maps not featured in the single player campaign.
Presentation is brightly coloured and nicely detailed, running smoothly and smattered with humours piratey jokes – such as “It’s a Stalematey” when a round is drawn.
You will also enjoy many an “A’vast”, “Lubbers”, “Me’Hearties” and so on. The cartoon pirate style works a treat.
Onto PAGE 2 for how Age of Booty plays as well as the Death Tank review.
