With Banjo and his mates previous game powers having been stripped from them prior to the start of this game, it is too the new and creative game element that our heroes turn to in order to defeat Grunty and her minions the Gruntbots.
Rare have introduced a lego-style vehicle building as the core game-play element. This process can be eschewed in favour of pre-built vehicles if need be. In doing so though the player is missing out on a significant percentage of B-K:N&B fun.
As with much of B-K:N&B, the building process seems convoluted and a little overwhelming to begin with. Firstly vehicle parts must be located around the starting hub world of Showdown Town. The parts are then brought back to Mumbo Jumbo’s workshop (using a trolley and Kazooies magic wrench).
In the workshop all manner of vehicles can be constructed, tested, painted and altered, using either blueprints (bought using the previously collected Musical Notes or found) or from scratch. Racers, tanks, copters, planes, boats and more are constructed here, though it is not until we get into the next part of the game that it becomes clear what their use will be.
With over 1600 different components in the game to construct vehicles, players can while away the hours just in the workshop.
The vehicles are important during the challenge world stages of the game. Once again a slightly convoluted process is involved. First an Orb must be gathered from the L.O.G, and set upon one of six plinths around showdown town – this opens the next world, and treats the player to a new cinematic (once again in Love Boat style) introducing the characters and geography of the new world.
But the way to the different acts of each world are via locked doors, each door can only be opened by having the required amount of Jigsaw pieces (Jiggies) in the Jigg-o-matic. To do this collected Jiggies must be earned, vendered and then placed in the Jigg-o-matic. Once the correct number are banked, the appropriate door will open, Phew!
