Home Reviews Computers Asus N series multimedia notebook with quad-speaker array

Tablets are cannibalising notebook sales yet the multimedia segment is doing very well. Asus’s new N series uses Intel Haswell, 4th generation processors and Bang & Olufsen ICEPower quad speakers to deliver a premium entertainment experience.

The new N550 and N570 are the first notebooks capable of cinematic-quality surround sound for games, movies and music. An external SonicMaster subwoofer produces realistic bass tones and compliments the four speakers. Before you ask – no it is not a substitute for an AV receiver but it’s a dramatic step forward for personal notebook sound.

Asus have included MaxxAudio Master professional audio tuning and a multi-mode AudioWizard to create sound profiles including movies, music, gaming, and speech.

The N series uses an Aluminium chassis and hairline finish covers. Web links are below

Opinion

Asus likes to be different, and sometimes out there, like with the Taichi dual screen hybrid, Lamborghini notebook, or the AiO dual Windows/Android desktops. It generally offers good value and higher levels of technology. The N series benefits from that pedigree.

Remember that notebook sound is usually terrible. This is a substantial improvement, but it will not replace a home theatre system for room-filling sound.
