Check Point IPS Products Protect Businesses Against First Microsoft Windows 7 Vulnerability

Check Point IPS solutions secure enterprise networks from Microsoft Server Message Block vulnerabilities

Check Point® Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, today announced users of Check Point Security Gateway R70, VPN-1® R65, VPN-1 VSX R65 and IPS products protect against denial-of-service vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. Check Point customers gain immediate protection against the exploit, which causes an affected system to stop responding until manually restarted.

The new Windows 7 vulnerability is due to an error in the Microsoft SMB implementation that fails to sufficiently validate all fields when parsing specially crafted packets. The SMB Protocol is a network file sharing protocol that is implemented in Microsoft Windows. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability and a denial of service condition on the target system.

Check Point IPS solutions provide intrusion prevention capabilities available on dedicated platforms or integrated into Check Point gateways by detecting and blocking malformed SMB packets. Check Point IPS products are supported by Check Point’s update services, which provide ongoing and real-time updates and configuration advisories for defenses and security policies. Check Point protections are developed and distributed by Security Research and Response Centers located around the globe.

Based on the Software Blade architecture, Check Point IPS Software Blade provides complete, integrated, next generation firewall intrusion prevention capabilities at multi-gigabit speeds, with preemptive threat coverage for clients, servers, OS and other vulnerabilities, malware/worm infections, and more. Software Blades are independent and flexible security modules that enable companies to select the functions they need to build a custom Check Point Security Gateway.
