Sybase Positioned in Leaders Quadrant in Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms Magic Quadrant

Sybase, Inc. today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant in its Magic Quadrant for Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms, 2008.[i] <#_edn1>  Gartner states, “We've renamed the multichannel access gateway market to the mobile enterprise application platform market, reflecting its maturation, Apple's entry, and the move of mobile tools and platforms to the application development mainstream. More-stringent requirements have narrowed the number of vendors.”

“We believe our position in the Leaders quadrant in Gartner’s Mobile Enterprise Applications Platform Magic Quadrant reinforces our ability to provide value to enterprises that want to mobilise key business applications and processes,” said Guy Maroney, Director of Mobility Solutions, Sybase ANZ. “From our perspective, Gartner’s evaluation is also a testament to our unwavering commitment to our Unwired Enterprise vision and our unique position within the marketplace to deliver upon it. As one of the first mobile enterprise software providers, Sybase has witnessed increasing demand in the number of enterprises that want to take advantage of the power of information anywhere, on any device.”

Gartner provides the “Rule of Three,” which states that “multichannel gateway approaches offer significant advantages in three situations: (1) when there are three or more applications, (2) when there are three or more targeted OSs or platforms, and (3) when they involve the integration of three or more back-end systems.”

“As a developer of mobile workforce applications centered on workflow and business processes, we needed a versatile and reliable synchronisation component,” said Stefan Christen, Global Project Manager, Swiss1mobile. “While evaluating vendor partnerships, Sybase was the clear choice because of their mobile enterprise expertise, strong product line, and market leadership.”

“Our primary focus at MobileDataforce is to provide mobile applications that bridge the gap between the office and the field, so we require a partner capable of serving as the synchronisation foundation of our platform PointSync,” said Mike Freeman, CEO, MobileDataforce. “After evaluating all the leading database and mobile middleware solutions, Sybase clearly stood out in terms of synchronisation capabilities, interoperability, and security.”
