Hosted Solutions, the East Coast’s premier data center and managed services provider, held a seminar titled “How SaaS companies can utilize virtualization for disaster recovery/business continuity” at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Cambridge, MA on Thursday, October 30, 2008. The event attracted 50 Boston area SaaS industry professionals.SaaS (Software as a Service), a method of distributing software via the Internet, is quickly being adopted as a business model by technology companies because it eliminates the burden of installing software on customers’ computers and alleviates the need for software maintenance, ongoing operation and support. It also reduces up-front expenses of software purchases. Hosted Solutions’ client roster includes dozens of blue-chip SaaS companies.
Hosted Solutions’ event discussed the convergence of SaaS and virtualization, a way of getting the most out of a company’s investment in hardware by running multiple independent virtual operating systems on one computer. Discussions focused on how SaaS companies should use virtualization to maximize their investment in disaster recovery and business continuity.
"Hosted Solutions was happy to work with our partners to address timely topics such as virtualization, business continuity and disaster recovery,” said Mike Lee, Hosted Solutions Boston Regional Manager. “Our attendees were excited to discuss solutions that allow them to address the universal concerns of their end users – how to save time and money in this tough economic climate.”
Brian Baker, Hosted Solutions Vice President of Sales, kicked off the evening with a review of Hosted Solutions’ state-of-the-art virtualization and BC/DR services.
Highlights included remarks from Hosted Solutions partners and SaaS experts Jamie Shepard of ICI America, Ray Patalano of Ciena and Brian Delaney of NEF, whose companies also sponsored the event.
The crowd was enthusiastic too for the demonstration on site-to-site SAN replication via EMC’s Recoverpoint technology, which showed attendees how to have an extremely cost effective, multi-site implementation that also satisfies end users.
