Wired Sky announces Vista Compatible U.S. wireless data cards

Wired Sky, Australia's leading wireless broadband rental provider, today announced the introduction of their United States wireless data card rental service.

Using this service, travellers heading for the U.S. will be able to avoid costly data roaming charges which can increase the cost of trip by hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Wired Sky's U.S. Data card service is an "all you can eat" unlimited data service, which means users of the service need not be concerned with bill shock due to excess data charges.

A quick overview of international data roaming costs reveals some significant savings. Per  megabyte, Telstra currently charges $15, Vodafone $10, with Three and Optus charging $20 per megabyte respectively. In comparison, Wired Sky offers an unlimited data plan for just AUD $165 a week. In other words, for the price of 11 Telstra megabytes, you can download/upload as much as you want with Wired Sky's U.S. Data card.

Whilst the direct savings in data costs make for a compelling offer Wired Sky's managing director Matthew Hall said it is the unforseen ancillary benefits which are really making the service popular: "With the increasing market penetration of VoIP PBX's many customers are using the U.S. data cards for VoIP calling by logging into their soft phones remotely and reducing their reliance on traditionally expensive in-house hotel landlines or cell phones"

Whilst wireless data speeds can vary depending on the wireless environment, typical downstream speeds for the US data cards is in the order of 300-500Mbps and bursting up to 2Mbps. The services operate on the largest wireless network in the USA, Verizon's National Access network. Modems are available in both USB and PCMCIA format and are compatible with all major operating systems including MAC and Windows Vista.

Wired Sky's U.S. Data card is the second international data card service added to its expanding international data card portfolio which includes New Zealand, The U.K. and Japan. So popular is the U.S. Data card service that Wired Sky has built a U.S. Data card site (http://www.wiredsky.com.au/US/index.html) where orders can be placed online and additional equipment like 3G routers can be rented to enable connection sharing.
