There is nothing wrong with drinking (as long as it is done by adults at or above the age of legal drinking) when it is done in moderation and when it is done responsibly. Using illegal drugs is against the law in the United States, which is why they are called “illegal.”
As such, when illegal drugs are used on college campuses there is something very wrong in that—especially when that use is called “
heavy alcohol and drug use or a general culture of licentiousness” with licentiousness meaning
“unchecked by morality.”
In the adult work, drinking should be set aside for after work, and after the five-day work week ends. It should be done in a responsible manner so that it does not adversely affect the ability to perform your job. We all know that it doesn’t always occur this way. Drinking alcohol on the job happens.
And the use of illegal drugs is sometimes done on the job, too. Many companies enforce drug testing at work for their employees, as do professional sporting organizations for the players.
Kids have the responsibility to study when at the university or college. Studying and preparing for the working world is why they are attending school. It is why they (and/or their parents) are paying the big bucks for a college education.
And, as with adults, these young adults need to learn how to balance studying and partying. Having gone to college for many years, I know that line is often muddled.
Playboy has determined the schools that are the “best” party schools in the nation. This information gives officials of these school the distinct advantage of knowing that a lot of “potential” drinking, drug use, and partying is going on within their campuses—maybe not with the majority of their students but with more students than on other college campuses.
Does the University of Texas really want to have the title of second best party school in the nation?
I pick on the University of Texas at Austin because they are known as a very good school academically. But, can they maintain that educational excellence with a party school label also bestowed on them in 2009!
