PS3 Entertainment Hub spruke. Sony keeps pace with its aging demographic

Opinion and Analysis

So the new hearts, minds and wallets to be won by the PS3 are actually the same ones it won with the PS2 and the PSone prior to that.  They may not be the actual same people, but the target audience has matured along with the technology.  Sony is not aiming for the kids play room domination this time around; it is aiming for the living room.

Utilising the hard drive of the PS3 for content download is a no-brainer, and is the way of the future, but what of the gamer?  The 28 year old who just wants to game, be it alone, or with his/her mates online or in the room with them.  How do they elbow their way to the High-Def screen in the living room and play a couple of hours of Resistance: Fall of Man or MotorStorm?

Only the individual purchasers can answer this, it will depend on the makeup of the household.  Do buyers actually believe they will get a great gaming experience as well as the advantage of using the PS3 as a glorified PVR?

To help the decision, Sony should, in conjunction with their third party developer alliances, continue the flow of “party games” such as the SingStar and Guitar Hero franchises. Along side this; they will need to provide the more geekified service such as content download, PSP connectivity and Blu-ray exploitation.

Of course interviews with Sony luminaries such as Harrison, shows that Sony, at least in print, are on top of these issues.   Sony are looking long term with the PlayStation brand.  .
