North American update 1.50 for the Sony PlayStation 3 seemingly fixes complaints with PS2 game quality.

One of the gripes with the release of the PS3 was the way, supposedly, supported PS2 games looked when inserted into the super console.  Jagged graphics and worse, a now famous youtube video gave dramatic footage of direct comparisons between the systems.

A recently release update seems to have quietly fixed the issue. Ars Technica reports on the experience, with the 1.50 update improving graphics for at least the PS2 titles Final Fantasy X-2 and Resident Evil 4.

There is no actual mention of this fix on the Sony update site.  Updates included in the 1.50 download are officially;

Users
* You can now select an image to use as the User icon from [Photo].
Settings
* [Key Tone] has been added as an option under [Sound Settings].
* [Delete Backup Data] has been added as an option under [System Settings] > [Backup Utility].
* WEP 128, WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA-PSK (AES) have been added as security methods that can be used with [AOSS™] under [Automatic].*
* If you have already set up for AOSS using an earlier version of the system software, you must perform AOSS setup again to use the security methods listed above.
* When [Automatic] is selected, the security method to be used is automatically set.
* AOSS is a trademark of Buffalo, Inc.
* Friends
o The method for saving your password / signing in automatically under PLAYSTATION®Network has been changed. There are now two separate options.
* Other
o You can now enter text in Korean using the on-screen keyboard.


Kudos to Sony if they have indeed fixed or at least made a start on this issue.  If they have, it would be nice PR to let the community know.
