God Of War III - First impressions

Kratos is back, and his tattooed greying skin has never looked better now he explodes onto the PlayStation 3 platform.  But does God Of War III bring video-gamers too much cinema?

Still brutal, still angry, still out for revenge, Kratos has clawed his way onto the PlayStation 3 platform in a new iteration of Greek mythology blood and guts.

Playing through the early part of the game shows this final episode in the home-console version of God Of War is big on the epic but otherwise continues that trademark game-play so many others have tried to copy.

Kratos is on the verge of victory as he and the Titans climb Mount Olympus to take down Zeus and the other gods.  He is a little angry at having accidentally killed Athena and having been killed himself!

The opening action has Kratos roaming around the Titan Gaia as she battles Poseidon in gigantic form and protected by some vicious water-horses. 

Fans of the series will be on their toes from the outset as the landscape rolls around and Kratos is on the offensive one moment, and then buffeted into submission the next.  

In fact, these early stages are almost too cinematic.  The fixed camera, whilst very well controlled by the game, will pan sideways and zoom in and out as the frenetic action reaches a climax.  This may be a great experience for onlookers, but can be a little too much action for the player.
