Review: SingStar ABBA, Vol 3 and Singalong With Disney

Opinion and Analysis

Lucky this is a typed out review, my throat is somewhat horse from belting out everything from Disney classics to power ballads as Sony bombard the holiday season with SingStar karaoke titles Singalong With Disney, Vol 3 Party Edition and finally a chance to do some Swedish crooning with SingStar ABBA.

SingStar continues to thrive as a franchise, people love standing in front of their TV’s destroying past pop hits.

Sony have blessed the faithful SingStar fans with a bombardment of titles leading up to the gift and singing season.

SingStar Vol 3 Party Edition does little more than add an eclectic range, both new and old (mostly old though) tracks to the PS3 SingStar party.

Michael Jackson and Barry Manilow make their SingStar debut alongside Smashing Pumpkins, Queen, Kate Bush, K D Lang and others.  See the full track list later.

SingAlong with Disney attempts to woo the younger set into the SingStar franchise.  In a world of down-loadable content available to the next-gen consoles, this PS2 only title does feel a little limited.

It should keep the young ‘uns happy for a while though with selected tracks from Disney movies as old as Sleeping Beauty and as modern as Toy Story.  Getting the chance to sing “The Bare Necessities” or Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” is even fun for adults.

But for every “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” there is the almost impossible to sing “Under the Sea”, and in the opinion of those in the know – my seven year old girl – the set list could have been so much better.
