What do you want to see in the next Wii? Already speculation is building about how Nintendo might do the follow up to the Wii phenomenon.
Undoubtedly, if you stack up sales of the current generation of games consoles on the market, the Nintendo Wii is a runaway winner.
Arguments can be raised that comparing the Wii with peers, the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 is comparing oranges with peas. I myself have thought seriously about not including the Wii in any comparison with the Xbox 360 or PS3 as they increasingly take diverse paths in the interactive entertainment space.
Look back through some of the game reviews in Radioactive IT, the amount of releases that make their way onto PS3 and Xbox 360 while not seeing daylight on the Wii (and vice versa) is pretty high. In fact, generally it is only the true blanket marketing titles, usually movie tie-in titles that land on Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3. Usually making their way onto hand-held gaming devices as well as mobile phones at the same time.
Given some of the technical limitation of the Wii when again (I keep breaking my new rule) stacked up against the tech laden Xbox 360 and PS3, it is no surprise that folks are looking forward to what Nintendo might offer as a Wii follow-up.
Graphically the Wii has been able to provide crisp visuals for the range of titles on offer, and then there are tech groups such as
High Voltage looking to glean more from the platform with upcoming shooters such as The Conduit.
Given the predominately casual games that fill the Wii roster, there is not a great need to upgrade the level of visual splendour. But elsewhere, Nintendo could make a few tweaks to the Wii package – perhaps not going all the way to Wii 2, but a Wii 1.5 could do well.
What then could we see in a Wii 1.5 or Wii 2 - Onwards to page 2.
