Sid Meier owes me a significant amount life time.  This game designer is responsible for more time spent in front of screen, mouse and keyboard than any other.  His signature series Civilization has been a staple on PC for over seventeen years.  Now Sid seeks to dominate our console time with Civilization: Revolution.

Through Railroad Tycoon, Alpha Centauri, Pirates! And more, Sid Meier has helmed some masterful and intelligent gaming titles on the PC platform.

With Civilization: Revolution, Meier (who – after a break returns to the Civilization franchise) and the team at Firaxis hope to bring some of that combination of brains and addictive play to the realm of home gaming consoles.

And indeed this has been achieved, dammit!  Til now the Xbox 360 and PS3 have been home – predominately – to mindless button mashing action games.  Now we have the more thought provoking, sedate approach to Civilization, a ‘turn based’ strategy game to deal with.

So leaving our smoking thumbs to cool, let’s take a look at how Civilization has survived the leap into gamepad territory.
