Gandalf is not pleased, Atari announce that the anticipated Tolkien based massive multiplayer online role play game (MMORPG) will have a belated start in Australia and New Zealand.

Atari distributors of the soon to be released Lord of the Rings Online : Shadows of Angmar have announced that they estimate the game will not be delivered until the first week of May.

According to the press release; “Atari Australia, Codemasters and Turbine Inc. apologize for this situation and will be immediately extending the grace period for customers who purchased their Pre-order key from an Australian / NZ retailer. The new grace period for those will be automatically set to May 10th prior to the expiration of the current grace period.
 
The LOTR Founder program has also been extended to May 23rd 2007 for Australian/NZ consumers. “

Lord of the Rings Shadows of Angmar will enter a market that will shortly have a glut of options for players.  Each of these offerings will be trying to capture a slice of the massively online gaming market currently held by World of Warcraft.

This game has a good chance of achieving this.  Licensing the beloved and well known world and characters created by J.R.R Tolkien over fifty years earlier.

Hopefully this is a delay in order to make sure the game is right from the start and not just ‘shipping down under” delays.  We will find out in a few weeks.
