Free Software Foundation chairman Richard Stallman will give two talks in Israel next week, according to information supplied by him.
Stallman will be giving a talk on Copyright vs Community in the Age of the Computer Networks at the Baladna Youth Club in Haifa on July 21 in Haifa
On July 22, he will give a talk on For a Free Digital Society at the Al Saraya Theatre in Jaffa.
Stallman was invited to speak in some Palestinian universities a few months ago; when he organised some talks in Israeli universities as well during the same trip, he had to
cancel them.
This was due to pressure from his Palestinian hosts who were providing the funds for his trip. The FSF chairman, however, made it clear that he
did not blame his hosts.
"Some Palestinians invited me to speak in Palestinian universities," Stallman told iTWire at the time. "I then arranged speeches in Israel afterwards since I would be there.
"When the Palestinian hosts found out about this, they said they would not pay for my tickets if I were going to speak at Israeli universities. They have a campaign of boycott of Israeli universities."
Stallman did not give details of how the talks in Israel had been organised though it is obvious that they will not get in the way of the policies of his Palestinian hosts as they are not at universities.
