Debian developer Adrian von Bidder dead

Opinion and Analysis

The Debian GNU/Linux project has lost a second developer in the space of eight months.

Adrian von Bidder died on April 17 of a heart attack. His death comes on the heels of the death of Frans Pop in September last year.

Adrian was one of the founders and the current secretary of Debian's official presence in Switzerland which began in 2006. He was 34.

He was the founder of the NTP Pool, the crowd-sourced time synchronisation project which is used, among others, by the Debian project.

In a media release, the project said: "The Debian Project honours his excellent work and strong dedication to Debian and Free Software.

"Adrian's broad technical knowledge and his ability and consistent willingness to share that knowledge with others will be missed.

"The contributions of Adrian will not be forgotten, and the high standards of his work will continue to serve as an inspiration to others."
