One of the pioneers of the internet will be giving a keynote at the Australian national Linux conference in January.
Vinton G. Cerf, co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the internet, is by far the biggest name among the four technologists who will keynote at the LCA in Brisbane.
LCA 2011 is scheduled to be held in Brisbane from January 24 to 29 next year.
Cerf is currently a vice-president and chief internet evangelist for Google. He is also chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Along with Robert E. Kahn, Cerf received the US National Medal of Technology from former President Bill Clinton for his role in founding and developing the internet.
Cerf is also a recipient of the highest American civil award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which he and Kahn were awarded in 2005.
The LCA organisers also announced that Geoff Huston, chief scientist at the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre, the regional internet registry serving the Asia-Pacific region, would present a keynote.
Huston has been associated with the initial incorporation of the internet within the Australian academic and research sector with the Australian Academic and Research Network or AARNet.
Before joining APNIC, Huston was chief scientist at Telstra and has taken a lead role in building Telstra's internet services.
