Stefano Zacchiroli is new Debian leader

Senior developer Stefano Zacchiroli has been elected the leader of the Debian GNU/Linux project for 2010-11, having defeated the other three candidates in the race.
The voting period ended on April 15 and the results are now available on the Debian website.
Zacchiroli, it may be recalled, had thrown his hat in the ring for the post last year as well, against Steve McIntyre, who has just stepped down after a two-year stint as leader.
Ranged against Zacchiroli, who has been a Debian developer since 2001, were Margarita Manterola, a software developer from Argentina, Wouter Verhelst, who runs his own free and open source software business, and Charles Plessy, a molecular biologist whose main contribution has been to the Debian Med project.
Zacchiroli is a post-doctoral fellow at a university in Paris, France.
Debian uses the Condorcet method for project leader polls.
All possible two-way races between candidates are considered and the winner, if there is one, is the candidate who beats every other candidate in a two-way race with that candidate.
