As to Sanjeev's post, I have never seen such a mass of nonsense in nearly 30 years of dealing with every kind of manuscript in three countries, right from scholarly works to the copy sent in by correspondents in rural areas of India, those who earn their payment by the line, and have no idea of where to begin or end a sentence.
No, this post is a real gem which speaks volumes for the writer's ignorance - of fact, grammar, language and commonsense. It's like
the famous essay on the cow which one can find on the net - but even that essay has more logic than Sanjeev's mudslinging and rambling.
Samples of his prose (and I choose the word advisedly) follow in bold, with my comments (by the way, the man has no use for the apostrophe, that wonderful unit of punctuation; he occasionally drops one here and there, much in the way that one would scatter salt in a curry):
On Patents and the FUD: There are two kinds of open source users in the world - People who love open source, and people who hate microsoft and proprietary software. I’m part of the first, which one are you?
Actually there are many more kinds of users but little Sanjeev is a bit limited when it comes to comprehending that. And he's also blissfully unaware that there is something called open source software and something else called free software and that the two are radically different. If only that were the extent of his ignorance!
I know NOTHING about patent law and how dangerous having these applications on your machine can be. In other words, I know as much as you do about all of this
When people advertise their ignorance and parade it as a virtue, it frightens me. Sorry, but not everyone is as ignorant as you, dear boy. Bradley Kuhn, for example, has written
a rational, reasoned piece about patents which can be read and understood by anyone who understands English. (In your case, I can arrange for a translation if you wish.) But then who the f*** is Bradley Kuhn, eh?
Most open source softwares replicate some features which may be patented. Do you think there won’t be patent issues over Openoffice or Gimp which replicate commercial software’s functionality.
The word software is a collective noun and requires no "s" to make it plural. And your point is?
A mentor of mine told me that patents are to prevent companies from getting sued, not to sue companies.
Of course, your mentor is the one we need to blame. Not you, for your foul attack on one of the best programmers the world has seen.
