Linux conference organisers call for papers

Opinion and Analysis

The fact that organising Australia's national Linux conference is fully a year's work has been brought home with the announcement by the organisers of LCA 2009, or linux.conf.au as it is better known, that ideas for papers can be submitted.

The call - both for the presentations to the main conference and for mini-conferences - went out on Friday, July 4, just five months after the 2008 event concluded.

This will be the 10th LCA and the first to be held in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. The first conference, held in Melbourne in 1999, went under the name Conference of Australian Linux Users; there was no conference in the year 2000.

Ben Powell, one of the co-organisers of the Hobart conference, and president of the Tasmanian Linux Users Group, said as usual there would be mini-conferences on the first two days - January 19 and 20.

The main conference would run from January 21 to 23, with about 20 talks being held each day. At the 2008 conference, there were a total of 52 talks and 16 mini-conferences.

Powell said he expected about 100 speakers in all over the five days of activity.
