TomTom iPhone car kit finally arrives at retail destination

Opinion and Analysis

Built-in loud speaker and microphone:

- Clear voice instructions through the built-in speaker, so you’ll hear every direction loud and clear

- Integrated microphone and speaker allowing hands-free calling while driving

Additional features:

- Charges iPhone while on the go, so it stays fully charged

- Plays your iPhone music through the AUX OUT port over your car stereo (providing your car stereo has an AUX IN port and you buy the ‘optional audio cable’, which judging by the photo is a standard 3.5mm male to male cable)

Available at a cost of AUD $159.99, the car kit does not include the TomTom GPS iPhone app, something you’ll need to buy separately if you don’t already have it.

Interestingly, the TomTom iPhone app is not a prerequisite to buying the TomTom iPhone car kit, as both will work separately, but without the TomTom GPS app you’re effectively just buying an iPhone car kit cradle, so really, you’d want to buy the two together, especially given the car kit’s GPS boosting nature.

Finally, iPhone OS 3.0 is required, so if you haven’t yet upgraded (whether you plan on buying the TomTom iPhone app, the car kit or both), it’s high time to do so!
