TomTom iPhone car kit finally arrives at retail destination

Opinion and Analysis

iPhone 3G and 3GS users who have purchased the TomTom GPS navigation app can finally buy TomTom’s official iPhone car kit in retail stores, while online purchasing through the online Apple Store is coming “soon”.

Although the TomTom GPS app launched on August 17, it has taken some months for TomTom’s official iPhone car kit to become available, with its promise of safe navigation and safe in-car calling.

Lost in transit no more, the car kit has safely arrived at its destination in retail stores, with TomTom’s marketing manager, Chris Kearney, saying: “The TomTom car kit for iPhone has been designed with safety and quality in mind. Its range of cutting-edge features will ensure the most optimised driving and navigation experience with the TomTom for iPhone app.”

So, what precisely are those features which seek to tempt the relocation of cash from your wallet into TomTom’s coffers? Here we go:

Secure docking:

- Secure mount with unique design docks iPhone to the desired position on the car windshield or dashboard, using a twist-and-lock motion

- Adjustable mount securely rotates iPhone to either portrait or landscape mode for optimal positioning and widescreen route display

- Easily removed with one twist upon arrival at a destination

Enhanced GPS performance:

- Built-in GPS receiver reduces the chance of signal drop out in areas where GPS reception is limited like cities with tall buildings or forested areas
